Richard Russell : The Prodigy : XL

The Prodigy Experience

The Prodigy Experience

The Prodigy’s first LP, Experience, hit shelves on XL in the centre of the rave scene that spawned the label. It was a triumph, with singles such as Charly, Out Of Space and Everybody In The Place beginning to trouble the mainstream. But the group’s second effort was a more driven, aggressive beast.

Music For The Jilted Generation railed against the corporate mutation of the rave movement. It turned the scene on its head, and became both Howlett and XL’s first mega-hit.

Liam Howlett: ‘I’m bored of big collaborations’

Damn, so does this mean no Kool Keith on the next record?

The Prodigy’s mainman Liam Howlett has spoken about his plans for the band’s new album.

Howlett, who revealed earlier this week that the Essex stadium fillers’ new record has been given the working title ‘How To Steal A Jet Fighter’, told NME that he plans to avoid big-name collaborations on the band’s new LP.

Howlett, who has collaborated with the likes of Liam Gallagher, Dave Grohl and Juliette Lewis on previous albums, has said that he wanted to work on collaborations with “people lower down the scale.”

Asked if there were any big name guests on the band’s new album, Howlett said: “Nothing well known at this stage. Maybe later down the line. I tend to try to work with people that are more lower down the scale, I’m bored of the big collaborations. Maybe on a production level there’s a few people I’m working with people lower down the scale.”

The multi-instrumentalist also spoke about the making of ‘How To Steal A Jet Fighter’ and said that his bandmates Keef Flint and Maxim had been much more involved in its creation. He also admitted that the band’s 2009 effort ‘Invaders Must Die’ might have benefited from their input.

Asked what the other members of The Prodigy were up to, Howlett said: “They’ve been in the studio with me. Even if they’re not working on lyrics every day, definitely a few days a week they’re come in, have a listen, talk about it. I made the mistake in the past, not the last record but before, where I delivered finished tracks. I think it would have been better with some input along the way.”

The Prodigy are expected to debut new songs during their headline slot at this summer’s Download Festival. They will top the bill at the event along with Metallica and Black Sabbath.

Happy Birthday Maxim Reality

Happy Birthday Maxim Reality

G’day fellow Fanboys! Finally back from vacation. Had a nice holiday break!

Didn’t check my email at all and ended up with just over 200 messages and also missed some Prodigy news. Last night I caught up with some news and have yet to contact everyone who has contacted us via Contact Form, Facebook and Twitter. I will do so when I can.

Anyhow, the boys are back on tour in about a months time. Quite a few new tour dates have been announced and you can checkout the gig list here. Seems to be Europe for now. Also most likely the boys will be unleashing new beats! Good times :)

Anyone who is heading out to the upcoming gigs, feel free to send us your review, videos, pictures, audio and so on.

Most important, our favourite MC turned 45 years old on March 21st!

Maxim, we know you’ll be reading this mate. So The Prodigy Fanboy community, MartinProdigy, ET and I wish you a happy birthday. Hope you had a great day mate!

I have no idea how you do it, you put your voice out at every gig and always deliver! We love your vibe! and appreciated it very much.

I will never forget the first words I heard you say live “Where the fuck is Melbourne!” Haha.

Plan B

UPDATE: You can now listen to the remix here.

Original Post: Plan B or Ben Drew, is a British rapper who is releasing an EP with a track called ill Manors with expected release date of 25th of March.

The EP includes The Prodigy Remix. Liam had been quite busy with the remixes lately!

No preview is available at the moment. However you can checkout the iTunes page here. Also, learn more about Plan B here.

Makes me wonder far into the boys are in the new record. Cannot wait until Download! Still expecting a AONO Part 2 for some reason, which is a good thing. AONO with Keith and Maxim? Hell yeah!

Liam Howlett

Hello Fanboys, we’ve got a pretty neat update today.

Came across this great mix by Liam on Sunset 102 FM Radio from 1991!

I tried to find some more information behind this, however didn’t find anything. If you know anything, please let us know in the comments. However found out that Sunset 102 FM was a Manchester dance station. Seems like it was a station the lasted from 1989 to 1993.. read more about the station here.

The mix by Liam is awesome, enjoy guys!

Re-Experience The Prodigy

The Prodigy Experience

The Prodigy Experience

Hello fello Fanboys, got a great article written up by Chris Swindells from Virtual Festivals website.

Great read about Experience and so on. Thanks to Michael Botzaropoulos for the heads-up via Fanboy Contact.

The rave scene was a rabid epidemic, running unabated and wild in the summer of 1991. This free party outbreak spread with a ferocity of typhoid fever, stretching from satellite sites around the capital, infecting crowds of 50,000 or more in one night.
Back then The Prodigy were a innocent, fresh-faced four-piece, their foray into the crossover ‘rave n rock’ sound – inspired by what key man Liam Howlett saw as the Rage Against The Machine live model – were still not visible on the horizon.

Whether Howlett’s vision or the rave came first, his debut album with The Prodigy would set the fundamental building blocks for the band’s sound: breakbeat hardcore, with slabs of techno, dub-reggae and the then emerging sound of drum and bass, which became the blueprint for more than two decades of musical reverence and electric, ear-splitting live shows.

The Prodigy Present: The Dirtchamber Sessions Volume One

The Prodigy Present: The Dirtchamber Sessions Volume One

So, most of you know about ‘The Dirtchamber Sessions Volume One’ mix by Liam right?

Well, that was a result of a 1998 guest DJ appearance by Liam on Mary Anne Hobbs Breezeblock show on Radio 1.

However, the Radio 1 edit & the Dirtchamber edit are different. A few tunes did not make the cut due to permission to use. You can read more about that here.

We’ve got a link where you can listen to the original Radio 1 edit. It also includes a little interview at the beginning.

Enjoy.

Thanks to Twitter user @execaballero for the heads-up.
