THE PRODIGY FANBOY INTERVIEWS LIAM HOWLETT
THE PRODIGY FANBOY INTERVIEWS LIAM HOWLETT

Fanboy: You guys just wrapped up the Australian Tour. How was your experience down here, What were your highlights?

Liam: YO WE ALLWAYS COMIN TO AUSTRALIA , WE HAVE BEEN COMIN FOR YEARS AND THE PEOPLE ARE PARTY PEOPLE THAT ARE UP FOR A GOOD TIME ,, WE ALLWAYS SEEM TO HAVE TOO MANY DAYS OFF IN BETWEEN THE SHOWS THOU SO THIS TIME I SET UP A STUDIO IN HOTEL ROOM SO I COULD CARRY ON WORKING,, I THINK WE ALL LIKED THE SYDNEY AND MELBOURNE SHOWS THE BEST BUT THEY ALL ROCKED

Fanboy: How did the Azealia Banks collab on stage with Keith during Firestarter come about, what did you think of the outcome? I personally think it was massive and intense!

Liam: KEEF WENT TO HER SOLO SHOW AND HUNG OUT , WE KNEW SHE IS INTO OUR BAND AND SHE DOES A COVER VERSION OF FIRESTARTER IN HER SET SO WE JUST ASKED HER SPUR OF THE MOMENT IF SHE WANTED TO COME ONSTAGE , WE DONT USUALLY DO THINGS LIKE THAT BUT IT WAS SPONTANIOUS AND FUN

Fanboy: Australians got their first taste of Jetfighter & AWOL. Jetfighter sounds amazing! Really dig it. AWOL was later removed from the set list during the tour. Is this because the set list is becoming too long or have you decided to put the track away…?

Liam: I THINK THERE WERE SOME TECHNICAL PROBLEMS AT ONE GIG WITH THE LIGHTS SO WE TOOK IT OUT BECAUSE WE HAD TO CUT SET SHORT ,,, ITS ALSO STILL WORK IN PROGRESS SO I WILL WORK ON IT FURTHER BEFORE WE COMMIT TO IT BEING PART OF NEW RECORD , ALSO JETFIGHTER IS JUST IN ITS FIRST STAGE SO IM BACK IN STUDIO WORKING ON THAT TOO TO SEE IF IT MEETS THE LEVEL FOR ALBUM

Fanboy: At your milestone gig at Milton Keynes, no tracks from Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned were played. I personally love Spitfire and Girls live. Did these tracks not get played because you felt AONO wasn’t a band album?

Liam: NO NOT AT ALL , I THOUGHT WE PLAYED SPITFIRE , HA HA ITS ALLWAYS HARD TO KEEN EVERYBODY HAPPY AND WE CANT PLAY THEM ALL . LIKE THESE GIGS WE DECIDED TO ROCK UP HYPERSPEED AND PLAY THAT INSTEAD OF SPITFIRE , WHICH WE LUV

Fanboy: The Worlds On Fire CD / DVD is missing World’s On Fire, Poison, Mindfields, Diesel Power, No Good and Charly. What was the decision behind this?

Liam: NO REASON , I THINK MAYBE IT WAS TOO LONG , I CANT REMEMBER

Fanboy: Many of us hardcore fans still have hope for the following tracks to be released: Heat Wave, Dead Ken Beats, Wake Up Call Full Vocal version with Kool Keith, No Souvenirs, Memphis Bells AONO demo mix version, Gabba, Rock n Roll. Will any of these ever see the light of day? Say for example. As B-sides, downloads on the site, EP, Rarities album…

Liam: PARTS OF HEATWAVE ARE ACTUALLY ON A NEW SONG IM WRITING , I CANT SEE NO SOUV EVER COMING OUT , D K BEAT WILL DEFO BE A B-SIDE ON NEW MATERIAL , I MIGHT EMAIL YOU THE DEMO VERSION OF MEMPHIS BELLS IF I CAN DIG IT OUT ,,

Fanboy: Martin James mentioned another book, is this still going ahead and if so, when are we likely to see it?

Liam: DONT KNOW ABOUT THAT ,

Fanboy: Are core tracks of the new album written and can we hear those live any time soon?

Liam: MORE ‘HARDCORE’ THAN ‘CORE’ HA HA , YEAH WE PLAN TO PLAY THINGS AS THEY ARE WRITTEN NOW

Fanboy: How is the progress going on How To Steal A Jetfighter, has the theme for it gone into a combination of Jetfighter and Circus?

Liam: YOU HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT THE BACKDROPS ONSTAGE HAVNT YOU ! WE LIKE TO KEEP THINGS MOVING AND AS THE TRACKS GET FINISHED THE IMAGERY WILL BE DICTATED BY THAT,, THE TWISTED CIRCUS STUFF CAME FROM OUR END OF WORLD SHOWS AT BRIXTON IN DEC SO WE LIKED TO ROLL WITH THAT IN AUSTRALIA

Fanboy: There was talks of a isolated single maybe happening. Is this still the plan? Or maybe an EP coming soon?

Liam: I DO LIKE THE IDEA OF THIS AND WANT TO MAKE IT HAPPEN , KEEP UR EARS LOCKED

    Anything new about demo track?

  • The Prodigy Fanboy

I really hope. That Liam decides at their end of their career. That they do a box set with all the lost tracks. It would be amazing.

  • The Prodigy Fanboy

Oh yeah. It wasn’t worth waiting 7 years. It wasn’t a 7 year album… Haha, defiantly not a party album. To me, it’s more of a car album. If that makes sense.

  • The Prodigy Fanboy

Not yet. I’ll let you know when I get an update.

  • Corina reality

Fanboy I so pray u wrong about Jetfighter being their last tour. I want my daughter to have the chance to enjoy what I loved for 20years. I still need them. And I want to have the chance to see them again myself.

  • Mike

Yeah if Liam did that, a collection of lost tracks, that would be fucking amazing. I’d throw a ton of cash down on that,

They really did drop the ball on The Fat Of The Land Expanded…
so much stuff could have been included… even if it’s stuff we already have. like the b-sides from that era that were spread across singles and stuff like Ghost Town and Diesel Power (Dirtchamber Mix). would have been nice to have it all in one package. i’d love something like that.

but if there’s any Expanded Edition that i’m looking forward to the most (if it actually does even happen), it would definitely be Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. there’s so much stuff that Liam could put on that release… the binned album with tracks like Trigger, Nuclear, original BGAT, Little Goblin, etc. Wake Up Call full vocal… the scrapped Juliette Lewis track Good Morning, No Souvenirs should be on this as well, even stuff like Razor & Back To Skool, and can we please get a full vocal mix of Warning already? i really do hope Liam gives AONO a proper expanded edition since there’s plenty of stuff the fans would love to have.

hands down, AONO is definitely most interesting of albums when it comes to expanded stuff we could get. But The Fat Of The Land expanded makes me worried we won’t get something like that.

Please Liam, read this and think about it.

  • The Prodigy Fanboy

I hope it isn’t their last album or tour either. I too want my kids in future to experience what has been part of my entire life. Only time will tell.

  • The Prodigy Fanboy

It’s most likely to happen. Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned is under XL Recordings. It was their idea behind the expanded albums. So this is the last one to pump out. Hopefully they talk with Liam on this one and get a proper expanded edition. Or even the entire binned version of it. Just like you, I need it! By far the most interesting era and album.

  • Mike

just some of the AONO era stuff that we know about…

    09) Wake The Fuck Up
    10) Warning (’04 Mix)
    11) Warning (’06 Mix)
    12) Vacation (Flint track, I remember Liam saying he turned this into a Prodigy track like he did with BGAT & Razor)
    13) Razor
    14) Back To School
    15) Nightboat To Cairo (Madness Cover)
    16) No Souvenirs
    17) Guns (version played on radio by Gallagher bro)

    25) Spitfire (’05 Edit)

    26) More Girls

and who knows what the fuck else there is… what did i miss? lol

but this would make AONO Expanded absolutely truly frigging epic!
come on please Liam, think about it brutha :)

i wish we got expanded editions like Billy Corgan has been doing with old Smashing Pumpkins album, packed full with extras and demos, alternate takes. something like that would be a Prodigy fans wet dream come true.

  • Guest

also Dead Ken Beats is from this era as well… but we may get it on a future Prodigy single as a b-side. but if not, put it on AONO Expanded along with Nail ‘Em as a decent studio quality version.

  • Mike

    oh crap, and i forgot…

    27) Shadow (and it’s many versions)
    28) Dead Ken Beats (from this era, if not used on future b-side)
    29) Nail ‘Em (w/ Dirtcandy)

  • Exe

Big respect Danny. I’m so glad about you with the interview. A lot of time, dedication, effort that you put here, in this place, your place, our place to connect this great feeling by the band. About the interview? Ten points! :)

Hope the new record will be release comming soon as Blitzkrieg attack to kill our hungry wish more precious of sound, beats and dirty synth.

    Thanks again, keep it real!

    Exe

  • The Prodigy Fanboy

This is an awesome list you’ve put together. I really hope Liam has a look at this! However a list like that sounds way too good to be true or to ever happen. I really want that Nightboat To Cairo cover. That would be neat. Maybe I can ask about these tracks in the next interview…

  • The Prodigy Fanboy

If Dead Ken Beats ends up being a single, it would be epic. If anything, it’s got to come out. It’s too good not to have some type or release.

  • The Prodigy Fanboy

Thank you so much Exe, all the hard work has paid off! Although, I will continue my work here. Your words are very much appreciated, thank you.

I’m guessing the new album will be out early next year with a single this year. Just my guess tho, let’s see what happens…

  • Mike

definitely should pass this list on to Liam during the next interview :)

  • Corina reality

Plz in your next interview with them u can adresa the issue about them really communicating directly with their fans. Liam posts photos but not really reply to the fans. I know they are busy but still that will be great for us. All of them needs to interact more with us.we love them that’s why we’re fans. Prodigy fan 4ever. Love
