The follow up to Invaders Must Die is “coming together” and “feeling good”, according to the band’s trusted advisor Nick Halkes, formerly the founder of XL Recordings.

Speaking in a new Prodigy digital special for iPad and iPhone, Halkes also reveals the story of how the band rose out of the underground rave scene to take over the world.

The special, titled The Electro Legends Series: Prodigy Edition is out now from the App Store apps Future Music and Computer Music, for just $2.00.

In addition to the Halkes interview, it also features:

* a classic Liam interview
* 100 free electro-dance samples
* A video interview with Enter Shikari, discussing The Prodigy’s influence and their tours together
* Jilted Generation revisited
* Liam discussing his use of Ableton Live
* Exclusive video tutorials
* Behind the scenes of the Invaders tour with the band’s live drummer

Meanwhile, here’s an exclusive extract from the Halkes interview, in which he recalls hearing the Prodigy for the first time as a young A&A man.

“They sounded fresh and exciting,” remembers Halkes. “I wasn’t hearing world domination, but I knew it was strong underground music and it sounded very British which was a bonus too; the use of breakbeats helped differentiate it from much of the Belgian and American stuff that was big in the previous months.

“I remember asking Liam the classic question – ‘how do you see the project developing?’ – and he responded that he hoped to create a live act. I asked if he had the personnel in place, and he said he’d asked a few mates who were up for it, though they hadn’t rehearsed yet. He was hoping that would work out. Obviously Keith and Maxim were two of those mates. Amazing, isn’t it?”

After listening to the cassette demo for a couple of days, Halkes phoned Howlett to offer him a deal with XL. “The terms I offered were very basic – a low advance for an EP, with options for more – but that didn’t seem to concern him at all. He wanted a deal with XL and he’d got one!”
