I have this old 1970s record of Asha Bhosle and I find the sound fascinating. As a producer, I’m excited by the sounds that came out of India back then,” says The Prodigy band member Liam Howlett, adding, “Some of those soundtracks had a funky influence. Maybe I’ll go to a record shop when I’m in
India and buy some new music.”
Iconic breakbeat and industrial rock band The Prodigy will descend upon its Indian audience, headlining the Invasion Festival in Bangalore on January 13 and in New Delhi on January 15.
India debut
ProdigyThough they have been touring for twenty years now, it’s their first time in the country. The band will play an assortment of songs, right from their first album Experience released in 1992, to their last album Invaders Must Die that came out in 2009.
“We hear there’s a crowd waiting for us,” mentions vocalist and songwriter Maxim. “It’s always been about getting the right event. So when we got this opportunity, we didn’t think twice.”
Word on the street is that this is the biggest concert production ever in India and show organiser and owner of UKNY music Zak Biddu confirms this.
“We’re flying in over six tonnes of freight from Europe because it’s not just about bringing a great band but also the experience. It’s the same level of production you’d see at Glastonbury or other international music festivals,” he says.
According to Zak Biddu, between 20,000 – 25000 people will attend the Invasion Festival, with listeners coming to India from countries including Korea, Australia and even the US.
“We’re going all-out on lighting. There’re also jumbo video screens and front and rear-stacked speakers for a surround experience,” says Biddu.
The band is confident that their debut Indian act will impress audiences. “Just make sure everyone knows about this festival. It’s something that’s going to blow you away and you will never experience this again in India…” says Maxim. “Until we come back.”
