Specimen A Practices ‘Voodoo’ In The Prodigy Tribute

Brighton-based beat-slangers Specimen A transformed The Prodigy’s seminal rave track Voodoo People into a wobbly womp machine updated for today’s ever-evolving scene.

The trio, consisting of brotherly duo Phil and Mo Jones joined by DJ Smart, have been bringing their bass-heavy production to ears across the globe since the mid-’00s in the form of breaks, drum & bass, and more, including the chosen medium for this most recent refix, dubstep. Opening with the instantly recognizable guitar riff, the equally iconic drum pattern quickly surfaces accented by the frantic vocal sample and an array of oscillated bass and stabs. Although some may recognize the track from its Pendulum drum & bass remix, the Specimen A refix shares more sonic DNA with the original as it demonstrates the power of The Prodigy’s compositions maintained at the original 150 BPM but effortlessly reworked into dubstep.
