On set with the Prodigy

We’re new to all this blogging stuff, but have to confess what a cool way to share behind the scenes misbehaviour, team expertise and some of the laughter that happens on our shoots.

So let’s start from the beginning with the birth of Woolhouse with one of the most iconic bands in the world,

Location : Electric Cinema in Notting hill.

Client: Loaded Magazine / The Prodigy

Props: 16 bottles made of sugar and one tattooed arm belonging to yours truly – EmmaJ

Woolhouse Crew: Stephen Perry / EmmaJ /Assistant

Prodigy: Liam Howlett / Keef Flint / Management

Loaded: Some dude in a pink shirt – can’t remember his name / Female journalist

My grandma may not like all my tattoos, but I was thankful for them the day I met the band! In fact Keith was mid interview when I walked in and stopped before he was finished his interview to come and see them…..people with ink, will always be attracted to other people with ink.

I pretty much remember this shoot as clearly as if it happened yesterday. The Loaded magazine feature was to celebrate the long awaited “Invaders Must Die”

This was my first meeting with the band, but a meeting that brought me so much, the birth of Woolhouse Studios as a business, the value and input from “Master H” is still on the top 3 peoples who’s opinion I hugely value today.  I still send him new work that comes out of the studio for feedback, and he always replies.

The Shoot Itself:

The idea of breaking bottles on the count on 3 sounds like an easy one doesn’t it, but it wasn’t! So here we are in a tiny room in Electric Cinema about to shoot with the most iconic bands in the world, myself stood on a chair to the left of Liam waiting for my count in and………… crap! The bottle smashes all over his head before the queue! I’d like to say this only happens once, but it happens again and again. The weight of the bottle is in the “body” of the bottle and the neck which I was holding just wasn’t strong enough to hold it whilst waiting for a count of 3. I think it would be fair to say the “pink shirt dude” from Loaded thought I was a bit useless, ha but I didn’t care and nor did the band seem to. In fact they were exceptionally good natured and were enjoying a few giggles with us about how crap this was working out.

Having proceeded to destroyed all 16 bottles and still not convinced we had the shot, we decided to use all the broken fragments on the floor, collecting hand fulls and throwing them at Liam and Keef and also shooting them on their own being thrown against a blank wall so they could be added in Photoshop later. The shoot itself was actually over in a couple of hours, but it was a BRILLIANT couple of hours!

My conclusion on meeting the Prodigy, without a shadow of a doubt, they are exceptionally charming and charismatic, it was a shoot i will never forget.
