Touted as the Indian Woodstock with music, booze and fun, the Eristoff Invasion Festival saw British band The Prodigy set a throng of people boogieing on Saturday night at Huda Grounds, Gurgaon. Doped out pinheads, girls in six-inch heels and electronic dance beats – the festival was an open-air
disco.

After a great performance by Indian bands Pentagram, Midival Punditz, Jalebee Cartel and a DJ set by popular Australian electro rock act Pendulum, The Prodigy came onstage armed with an arsenal of fan favourites, Poison, Breathe and Voodoo People.

Known for some of the most popular dance tracks like Firestarter and Smack My Bitch Up, the band’s latest album Invaders Must Die was the biggest selling independent album in Europe in 2009 and 2010.

Vocalists Keith Flint and Maxim Reality pirouetted around the stage in their full tattooed glory, urging people to sing along.

PRODIGYGiven the band’s following, the capital’s hip crowd was in full attendance. And fuelled by Liam Howlett’s electrifying keyboards with a little help from the aptly named cocktails — Firestarter and Immunize –it didn’t take long for the audience to go into a Prodigy induced trance.

With disco lights, Prodigy’s techno-beats, induced trance it was no surprise that the crowd threw caution to the wind and was soon gyrating and grinding to the beats.

With people still going crazy even after an hour the band gave them the much-awaited Smack My Bitch Up, the most popular song making the fans scream out for an encore.

As Ankit Chopra, a crazed Prodigy fan said, “I feel so lucky to be here. This is the most mind-blowing live-act I’ve ever seen. There’s nothing better than dancing to The Prodigy’s infectious music!”

Speaking about the festival, Arvind Krishnan, GM Marketing, Bacardi India said, “With the changing music scenario, electronic music has floored many with its high energy. The Prodigy is purely reflective of that genius and Eristoff India as part of the Bacardi portfolio is enthused to bring such an exclusive event to India as part of their Eristoff Invasion Festival.”

Though the concert was more of a soporific extravagance than a musical treat, the Prodigy are undoubtedly the wonder kids.
