The Early Years 1988-1994

Classic reissue of the very first biography of the world’s biggest hard dance/rock act.

With a new introduction by Liam Howlett putting this classic early phase in the context of their historically important career, this book is a must-buy for the millions of Prodigy fans eager to learn about the band’s formative days.

THE PRO DIGY have sold 25 million records and single-handedly reinvented the crossover between dance and rock music, with legendary songs such as ‘Firestarter’, ‘Omen’ and ‘Breathe’. However, long before they became a stadium-filling rock monster, The Prodigy were prowling the underground of the UK rave scene, first as a blistering demo of tunes by the ‘prodigious’ teenage Liam Howlett, then latterly with their breakthrough masterpiece, Music
For The Jilted Generation.

Martin Roach was present throughout the band’s early years and documented their rise from the underground into the bright lights of music superstardom. Containing hours and hours of exclusive interviews, the book chronicles the band’s early years in minute detail, speaking to each band member and all the key players along the way.

Prodigy

This book, by Martin James, is a complete rewrite of the first book “Adventures with the Voodoo Crew”, from 1997 and twice the length (120.000 words compared to 60.000). Reading PRODIGY you’ll discover many little stories and facts you’ve never heard before. New chapters have been added, existing chapters have been rewritten and contain much more and new information. There’s the description of No Souvenirs, a track most of us still haven’t heard, there’s the Mixmag ‘Did Charly kill Rave?’ story presented from a different point of view, the breakup with Leeroy is explained in more detail than any other journalist has ever managed to. Also covered are the different solo careers, Maxim, Flightcrank and Liam Howlett’s DJ sessions. The book also covers the lenghty break of the band, how they finally made a return, it briefly covers the European and Australian tours and then finishes with a day with Liam at Rollover studios where he is putting the final touches to Baby’s got a Temper. Martin James describes the book as being much more critical, more “adult” and more in depth, especially about Liam Howlett.

The cover blurb says:
“Martin James is one of the most conscientious, outspoken and honest writers working in music today — and he’s not afraid to cry!”
Annie Nightingale MBE. Drawn from seven years of exclusive interviews and written by long time band friend (and occasional official record company biographer) Martin James, PRODIGY is the ultimate account of the greatest electronic punk band that ever existed. From the free party anarchy of the Prodigy’s beginnings to 1997’s world dominating ‘Fat of the Land’. From the incendiary globe trotting live shows to the media frenzy surrounding the ‘Baby’s Got A Temper’ single, PRODIGY opens a window on the backstage shenanigans, studio sessions and solo outings of the last gang in town.
Sex Pistols – Public Enemy – Prodigy. Its that simple really!

UK hardback book with loads of photos, quotes and facts about the guys. The book is pretty cool.. very nice color shots printed on very good paper. There is that classic history and discography sections as usual. There is also fact file to every member. Sadly there is no mention about Gizz Butt and other people featured in the live shows. The book is very good indeed.. there is only one mistake they have messed with the One Love/Your Love singles..always they talk about Your Love they are meaning the One Love! Anyway this may not the best book, but really worth of money..

Prodigy The Fat Of The Land Official Book

“The music business is like a big trap and that’s why I never like to put both feet in to it – I like to stand back and laugh at it, because if you jump into the mainstream completely then you are never going to escape. Songs like ‘Firestarter’ burst on to the mainstream and bend it, twist it. Then we retreat back underground. That’s the best way.” Liam Howlett, The Prodigy The Prodigy are the world’s biggest selling hard dance act – with over five million records sold and Top Ten singles in over thirty countries, they are both internattionally successful and critically revered. This official book reveals, in entirely the band’s own words, the thinking behind such ground-breaking relases as ‘Firestarter’ and ‘Breathe’, and gives an insider’s view on their remarkable live show and life in The Prodigy. With dozens of unpublished colour and duotone shots of the band backstage, live, in the studio and at home, ‘The Fat Of The Land’ is a unique and essential visual insight into The Prodigy, as well a stunning snapshot of a band that have single-handedly redefined modern music.

Comments:
This book was published by Omnibus Press in 1997. It’s a true Photo History of the Prodigy. It was collated between Martin Roach and Liam Howlett during the making of The Fat of the Land album. Liam selected the shots for the book from 1000 collected images. He also co-designed it. The interviews were exclusively for the book and most of the pictures are unpublished. This book is a visual complement to Prodigy: Electronic Punks. The book is fantastically laid out and designed well. Filled with awesome color and black & white photos in glossy format and quotes from the band members. If you are a big fan, this is really something for you!
