With Q celebrating its 30th birthday with a special issue – out now in print and on digital – we speak to Liam Howlett about his favourite music of Q’s lifetime, with The Prodigy leader explianing the debt he owes early rave culture.
Discussing the impact the scene had on him, he recalls driving around London looking for parties in the early 1990s.
“My mind was just blown by the excitement of the M25 parties after the moodiness of hip-hop,” he tells Q’s Andrew Perry.
“I’d just passed my driving test so I was the designated driver, but I didn’t give a fuck, man. I’d just jump in the blue Escort and rock on! While I was going out raving, that was when I was basically writing all the early Prodigy tunes.”
