” I never play stuff to anyone in its early stages. The current album, for example, I only played stuff for people when it was 80 percent there. You don’t want to have to be explaining why something’s not there. Basically I trust my judgement until it’s 80 percent, and then I bring the guys in. At that point, we decide who will do the vocals. The track has to have an effect for them. They have to sing it with a punch. You can’t give them something half-produced. You want them to get excited about it. Once the track is done, I play it for my friends. I played this album in different sequence. I think it’s important to see the reaction of people.”
