This story took place in 1996, when Keith Flint made nasty comments in a NME interview about Goldie and his fianceé, Björk. This led Goldie to wear a “Cunt Face” T-shirt featuring Keith’s face, at Brighton Festival that year.

After that Muzik Magazine featured a quote from an official letter where Keith apologised to Goldie & made a special interview with both of them, meeting each other for the first time!

Goldie: ” At first when Keith tried to call me i couldn’t fucking speak to him  man “

Keith: ” This whole episode was really ruined my year, especially as it came right on the back of our success with ‘Firestarter’. I’d never done vocals on one of our tracks before, and to do them successfully, and be accepted by the people live, was a massive buzz.

Needless to say, it was completely smashed to pieces, when all this shit came about. It was the last fucking thing i needed. I’m just glad it’s over.I’m fucking relieved, actually. “

Goldie was satisfied with the official apology and later on, presented the Prodigy as the Best Dance Act in the 1996 MTV Europe Music Awards at London’s Alexandra Palace, where it was their second time they’ve ever met.

So…it’s a brand new Keith Flint interview, uploaded on Monster Energy’s Youtube Channel! This one took place at the first round of the Hottrax Endurance Championship at Oulton Park in the UK and the subject of course is…bike racing!

Fanboy: It’s been some time since Hell’s Kitchen/Fallen Angel. How did Maxim DJ come about? We were surprised and excited when we got the news!

Maxim: I don’t think I will do another solo album. Just for the record, I wasn’t 100% happy with Fallen Angel. Looking back at it now, I should have produced it in a different way.
The Dj thing came about just playing tunes in the back stage area after our gigs – but I like to challenge myself – so why not!

Fanboy: How did your partnership with MC Cianna Blaze come about?

Maxim: I wanted an MC, but I didn’t want a male MC with a hoody (standard shit). So when a friend introduced me to Cianna, I thought “yeah this is right”. She’s got a good look and she’s a dope MC.

Fanboy: Fans want to know, how long have you been DJing? When did you first start and is it something you did at home, parties, etc.

Maxim: The first time on the decks was about 6 years ago, and the first gig I played was in Berlin 5 years ago.
I have decks at home – so I’m always on them – but my kids hate it. Haha!

Fanboy: Are there any plans to take Maxim DJ outside of the United Kingdom? We’ve already heard great reviews from your gig supporting Feed Me. Or are there plans to do Maxim DJ shows in-between Prodigy gigs around the world?

Maxim: Yeah I plan to do gigs worldwide.

Fanboy: Is there any plans of your previous solo music or your current DJing going into the new Prodigy record? For example, your ideas in writing and also samples you have come across.

Maxim: Maxim DJing and Maxim in the Prodigy are two different things its not good to cross polonate it confuses things.

Fanboy: What are the differences between Maxim DJ, being behind the decks and The Prodigy when you’re the frontman? Do you feel as you’re not in control of the crowd as such when behind the decks? Is your preparation different for the gigs?

Maxim: Djing and being in a band are polar opposites. You can’t say Djing is a full-on performance.
What we do in the band is irreplacable – you cant replicate that. It’s the real deal – we make the music, we play the music. With DJing I’m playing other artist’s music. It’s fun, but I’m not going to pretend it’s better than being in a band.

Fanboy: Has there by any chance been any talks of you doing the next Dirtchamber Sessions? We know Liam did Volume One, maybe you can do Volume Two? A lot of fans have asked about this and would love to have you do it!

Maxim: Haha! That hadn’t even come into my head! I’ve only just started to DJ in public, so I’m just enjoying the moment and having fun.

Fanboy: How do you maintain your fitness? You’re always looking in great shape on stage. Do you train with Royce Gracie often?

Maxim: I’m at a stage where fitness is very important to me. I’m all about mental and physical fitness. I work out regularly with a good friend called Toby Rowland.
When Royce is over in the UK, then I might have a session with him. He’s a personal friend, so we hang out too.

Fanboy: How do you feel about Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned?

Maxim: It’s a Prodigy album that had to happen to enable us to be where we are now. Just like all the previous albums.

Fanboy: Are you planning to do more paintings in future, any plans for more exhibitions? Some fans missed out on purchasing your work. Would you consider selling poster prints on The Prodigy Online Store?

Maxim: Yeah! I love painting. It’s a good release for me when I’m not doing gigs or DJing. I will be doing another exhibition in London, hopefully, at the end of the year.
I only sell the paintings now. I did do a few prints a while ago, but I didn’t think they did my paintings justice – so I stopped.

Ok guys. I’ll be putting this one up on the site after some time.

So, for me. This is actually a really easy one. I would pull out Full Throttle. Never been a fan of this track. When I listen to the album in full, I hate coming by Full Throttle and sometimes skip it. So I would pull this out.

I would also have the full version of One Love. Then in the spot of Full Throttle. I would add Rhythm of Life followed by Rock n’ Roll Athens (95? I think).

Everything else can stay the same.

What do you all think? Is it perfect the way it is? Would you change anything?

Well, being the jilted fan this is kinda a hard but i’ll give it a try, so let’s see. I like Full Throttle but it has no place on the album, also Speedway, i’d rather put them on some of the singles, also i’d made Break and Enter a little bit shorter and insert We Eat Rhythm and Rhythm of Life on the album, everything else is perfect as it is.

I would definitely remove Speedway .For me Experience is the best but I listen to the jilted quite often and this is the only track which really annoys me. I think it could be replaced by Scienide.

At first I wasn’t a fan of full throttle , but now I find it intresting :)

I’ve got to admit that your anwsers are surprising me. I love every inch of this album! If i could make any change it would be increasing the album length (if it were possible) in order to have RoL, We eat rhythm, One Love (original) and possibly other live only tracks from that era.

Jilted is the best prodigy album.. definitely in my top 5 favourite albums all time. For what it is technically and what it does musically. The tracks are long and epic, something modern day prodigy is missing. it’s just a creative masterpiece!

but apparently Liam wanted to do even more with it! I wouldn’t remove any track from the album. i would add the tracks liam wanted to add, but couldn’t because of CD limits

Oh yeah man, Jilted is my favourite album of all time.

NoisyFella & fan_of_creativity: Both agree to remove Speedway. I can understand that. But I don’t mind the tracks. It fits into the Jilted sound n’ all.

Full Throttle is indeed interesting. But I just feel it was slapped onto the album. Doesn’t the track use a sample of some scary movie or something? I feel like Liam slapped it onto the album because he had sampled a movie or something… I remember Liam saying in an interview, that he might have not put it on the album now looking back, or something like that.

Forgot about We Eat Rhythm! Include that one too :)

Gonga21 & KurtHectic: Oh yeah! If we could increase the album length. That would be awesome. I’d still remove Full Throttle tho :P Haha. What could have been even better. If the album was a double CD release. Imagine this, RoL, WER & all the live tracks from Jilted era!

Tracks from Jilted are indeed definitely long and epic which the album and tracks so great! It’s missing in modern day Prodigy. However I think another album just like Jilted might not work in this era. It’s something that would have only worked at the time. Times have changed and I feel like the boys have as well. Moving with the times you know.

Full Throttle has a starwars sample, The Heat has a sample taken from the film Poltergeist III. Speedway (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b28WgRfDhKQ). Skylined has a sample taken from the X-Files.

Ahh! No wonder I don’t know the sample. I’ve never seen Starwars. Well, that makes me think it’s definitely that Full Throttle is on the album for the Starwars sample alone then. Nothing else.

The sample is “We are going at full throttle” but in the album version the sample is reversed.

i fucking love full throttle, the hollow bass that kicks in at 1:46 makes the track. that kind of bass sound wasn’t really used a lot until the late 90′s uk garage scene, and Wiley’s eskimo sound in early 00′s

It’s a bit lets say ‘rude’ to change Jilted stuff on maybe prodigy’s no.1 album ever (in my opinion)
The main thing on this LP is the awesome row in the tracklist & the variety of different kinds of quality tunes!
Class productions & amazing work by talented LH these ‘after rave yrs’

Martin: You just released your new album “Alpha Omega”. Where does this title come from? Excited to have it out?

Caspa: Yea the album was released this Monday, very excited to have it out as it’s been a while since my last one. The title Alpha Omega means from A to Z or Beginning & End.

Martin: Is there a special concept for this record or does it just represent a collection of the best tracks you made recently?

Caspa: The concept comes from the title, which bases itself on the diversity of the album. There was also a cinematic influence to a large number of tracks on there.

Martin: What was the most exciting part of making Alpha Omega?

Caspa – Alpha Omega – Setting Sun

Caspa: A lot of my music is instrumental based, so working with vocalists was a new challenge for me. The dynamics of how you make music on an instrumental track to a vocal track is different, so learning how to keep the vocal & the instrumental balanced took some getting used to.

Martin: You focus your music on dubstep. What got you into music in general and then to dubstep?

Caspa: I’ve always been into music and both my Brothers and my Dad are record collectors, so it was a very musical household! I grew up as a kid listening to Jungle & hardcore and as a teenager listening to UK Garage, that’s when I bought my first set of decks & started buying the darker & heavier sound of Garage, which was the start of Dubstep.

Martin: What do you think about its current development and about the current EDM hype, especially in the mainstream media?

Caspa: It’s come a long way in ten years from small, underground parties to sell out arena shows. From selling 25 records to having No.1′s in the charts, Dubstep’s come a long way but still manages to keep its underground roots which is important. The word EDM is a stupid, made-up term that American press use to describe dance music, what we know as EDM in the UK has been around for the last 30 years and the same in parts of America such as Chicago & New York. It’s Dance music, whether it’s House, Techno, Drum & Bass or Dubstep.

Martin: Besides The Prodigy, what inspires you for your work, where do you get your ideas from?

Caspa: First of all, living in London is important to me as that’s a big source of inspiration, I love its diversity and the passion for music that comes out of it. Also from films and alternative music that’s where I get other ideas from.

Martin: How long have you been a fan of The Prodigy?

Caspa: Ever since I heard their first album “The Experience” as a kid.

Martin: How did the collaboration for your single War with Keith Flint come about?

Caspa: Through my manager Nick who originally signed The Prodigy to XL Recordings many years ago. He’s always worked very closely with them and also A&Rd their last album.

He linked myself & Keith together to bounce ideas back and forth for a track which we did for a while & finally came up with the tune War. It was very exciting working with Keith and The Prodigy and definitely a highlight of my career.

Martin: What was it like working with Keith Flint? During the recording of the record and the making of the video clip?

Caspa: The first time we met was at the video shoot, before then it was music and vocals back and forth over the internet. He’s a great guy and a hard worker, I’ve got a lot of respect for him.

Martin: War is featured in the Kickass 2 movie trailer. We think it fits perfect! How did this come about? The Prodigy had two tracks featured in the first movie and now War with Keith Flint is featured in the second!

Caspa: Through EMI who the record’s signed to, they put it forward and it was chosen for the trailer. So excited to be a part of it and have my music in a Hollywood film.

Martin: What advice would you give to others who say you are their hero?

Caspa: I’m nobody’s hero, I’m just a guy from West London who makes music that people relate to. My advice to anyone is find your own inspirations, believe in yourself and work your ass off, because a grand don’t come for free.

Flint – No Name No Number

So, you all know about The Prodigy’s Baby’s Got A Temper. It was the bands 13th single until later it was classified as an EP in 2008. It was supposed to be apparently on Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned until Liam scrapped the first version of Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned… Also note, it was the bands first release ever since Leeroy Thornhill had left the band.

The lyrics were written by Keith Flint during his side project band Flint. The track is called No Name No Number.

Flint consisted of Keith Flint (lead vocals), Jim Davies (guitar), Kieron Pepper (live drums) and Rob Holliday (bass), and Tony Howlett (drums). You can learn more about Flint here.
